Trainee Programme Manager sought to join a top professional services firm in London.

 

About The role

As a firm, the client is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best talent. One of the most important ways they do this is in bringing people early in their careers to the firm through the Graduate and School Leaver programmes. Collectively, trainees provide a key talent pipeline in to the firm.

The trainee experience team’s purpose is to deliver a market leading trainee experience, shaping and developing trainees who do not compromise on quality. The firm want’s trainees to stay with them after they have qualified and if they move on to speak positively about their time to ultimately become clients.

The trainee programme manager manages the operational running of the programme and is intrinsically involved in strategic decision making. The manager will lead on Talent induction events to ensure they are well executed and manages a wide range of stakeholders that impact on trainee’s experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

Markets

  • Acts as an ambassador for the company, seeking opportunities to raise brand profile

  • Develops a strong external network through attending relevant development conferences and programmes and networking with suppliers, other talent development leaders and business people

  • Maintains a strong commercial focus on the marketplace and the wider economy and uses this to inform thinking and decision making

  • Shows a deep understanding of the firm's vision, strategy and values and uses this as a foundation for all their work

 

Clients

  • Strong relationship skills are required to manage a varied number of stakeholders including but not exclusive to national Office Training Contacts, key learning/trainee contacts (NAS, NTO, Advisory), People & Client Experience, tuition provider.

  • Translates and delivers the company vision and strategy and the People and Client Experience strategy into their work

  • Consistently engages with internal clients to listen, understand their needs and identify the root causes of issues

  • Applies excellent consulting skills to understand and influence key stakeholders and the internal network

  • Uses these insights and their expertise to design programmes and lead projects to deliver sustainable business change, adopting the 70/20/10 development strategy to enable learning through application to the job

  • Liaises with other specialists to ensure complete alignment of messages, language and models across the organisation

  • Role models delivery of programmes to showcase behaviours and to inspire individuals to own their development

  • Works closely with wider People and Client Experience team to operate strategically within the company.

 

People

  • Actively participate in strategic discussion with the Head of Trainee Expereince and then delivers on that strategy.

  • Actively models the company values, promoting a culture of continuous improvement

  • Creates an environment that brings out the best thinking in the team

  • Integrates company International initiatives into all work, to ensure a ‘one firm’ approach within People and Client Experience projects

  • Builds a culture in their community with a positive mindset

  • Invests in own personal and professional development and uses insights from this in their work.

 

Operations

  • Project manages and orchestrates national trainee orientation 'Talent' programmes, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure trainees receive a thorough orientation to the firm

  • Manage the ongoing maintenance of the apprenticeship levy within the company for trainee population

  • Identify and act on opportunities for process and MI improvement

  • Applies commercially astute thinking to all decisions

  • Actively manages programmes to deliver maximum return on investment reflecting both hard costs and opportunity costs

  • Engages and negotiates with suppliers to ensure the firm is getting good value for money and the appropriate market rates

  • Challenges colleagues to ensure an aligned 'One Firm' approach is being applied to the Talent Development strategy

  • Sets long and short term goals to ensure the firm’s vision, strategy and culture is achieved

  • Successfully manages multiple large scale products, ensuring that all are delivered ‘on time in full’

  • A forward thinker, who targets, engages and develops the leaders required for the future.

  • Reports on the talent development progress to the business.

  • Establishes clear goals and measures of success for all projects and programmes and rigorously evaluates their effectiveness in terms of business improvements

 

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong organisational skills, project management skills, relationship management, and attention to details

  • Passion for the role and it’s connection with company purpose

  • Confidence to challenge decisions to ensure they are doing the best for  trainees

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the professional qualifications the company supports will be useful but not essential. Experience in working with trainees
