Job Description

Seeking: Technical Business Analyst to join a London based insurance and financial services provider.

 

About The Role

The aim of the IM Infrastructure team is to ensure that Investment Management (IM) is and remains at the leading edge of investment industry best practice by instigating and managing changes to the operations of IM.  It is also responsible for the implementation of Group wide projects, such as acquisitions, from an investment perspective.

This role provides systems, business process and reporting analysis within the team and wider function.


 

Key Responsibilities

This is the lead role analysing current or future system functionality changes or enhancements for IM reporting tools provided by the administrator of company assets, FIS APT and FIS Integrity applications.  In addition, this role will involve the maintenance and creation of tactical end user computer (EUC) applications, typically in Microsoft Excel and Access.

 

Systems Development

  • Assess IM systems to ensure current systems are fully utilised and identify any potential improvements.  This will involve close consultation regarding resources and available technology.

  • Gather, analyse and document requirements from key business users across IM and other departments where IM is impacted.

  • Conduct requirement gathering workshops and use other elicitation techniques to ensure the active involvement of intended users in the analysis phase.

  • Translate high level requirements into project briefs and create proposals with cost benefit analysis.

  • Evaluate the feasibility of projects from a business and technical perspective.

  • Work with supplier development teams to ensure proper translation of business requirements into IT designs and solutions.

  • Analyse data within IM systems, employing SQL scripts or other data mining techniques, validating data quality and extracting and transforming data for business users.

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of business data, and mechanisms for market and portfolio data entry into systems.

  • Assist in maintaining and creating system component rules and metadata.

  • Create detailed specifications for systems and/or reporting changes and communicates these to the systems supplier

  • Provide business input to systems providers during the change processes.  

  • Assist IM BAU with the UAT of any new system functionality, writing and implementing detailed test scripts.

  • Assist with the re-engineering of business processes as a result of new system implementations or upgrades, focussing on system training and the handover of activity across multiple departmental functions.

  • Assist with the support of existing business processes and configuration of systems Best practice and regulation

  • Assist in assessing IM procedures to ensure that they are at the leading edge of best practice and identify any potential improvements. 

  • Assist in the implementation of changes required by: investment industry best practice, regulation and legislation.

  • Assist in developing IM operational procedures to ensure optimum effectiveness in changing environments.  

  • Liaise with other functions regarding work and information flows, to improve operational efficiencies.  

 

Project Work

  • Assist in the identification and implementation of projects, which will be of benefit to IM and the wider Group.

  • Carry out ad hoc project work when requested.

  • Relationship Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with systems providers, and other IM functions

 

Skills & Experience

  • A good understanding of the project lifecycle

  • Ability to produce the appropriate project artefacts (from the project life-cycle as defined by Group Operations) for new functionality planned for Eagle, SWAPS, Integrity and APT and any future systems adopted into the support model.

  • Software development

  • Ability to modify End-User Computing applications developed in Microsoft Visual Basic

  • Ability to write and understand SQL queries

  • A high-level understanding of financial instruments and their attributes

  • Understand how to translate business reporting requirements into a system solution for these instruments

  • Basic understanding of how valuations for these security types is calculated

  • Basic understanding of how performance is calculated for these security types.

  • Ability to describe the characteristics of bonds, futures (bonds, equities, and interest rates), options (currency, rates, and futures), pooled vehicles and other investment fund types.

  • Ability to navigate Bloomberg to determine specific attributes of a financial instrument.

  • Ability to pull-down data from Bloomberg into a spreadsheet for further analysis.

  • A basic understanding of the analytics associated with financial instruments such as duration and other sensitivities.
