The Department

Enterprise Risk forms part of the wider Risk team within the Risk & Compliance function, which reports directly to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). The Enterprise Risk team partners closely with senior managers and their teams across the business globally to:

 

  • Develop and embed a risk management culture,

  • Deliver and maintain an effective Enterprise Risk Management Framework that provides appropriate support for the business to make risk-based decisions

  • Equip the business to effectively and efficiently manage their risks through the implementation and embedding of a robust risk assessment methodology and the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system

  • Ensure appropriateness and transparency of risk information reported to the Board Risk Committee (BRC), the Executive Committee (ExCo) and other relevant governance committees

 

About The Role

The post holder will act as a dedicated risk partner and trusted advisor for a specific business area. This encompasses ongoing training, advice, challenge and support to embed good risk management practices and risk culture within the business.

The post holder will report to the Global Head of Enterprise Risk Business Partners and is responsible for the delivery of the ERBP plan and activities for the specific business units falling within the remit of the role. Additionally, the role holder will assume the responsibility of Enterprise Risk Business Partners lead for the North America region.

This role has a primary alignment to several business units, both functionally and within a global context. The role includes management of all direct reports globally. This provides opportunities to actively engage with and support a broad range of stakeholders at all levels and as a result broaden relationships and partnerships across different functions within the business.

The role includes both remediation and “Business as Usual” activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Governance

  • Lead the review of the design and effectiveness of the governance arrangements in place across the business units and, where applicable, partner with the business to establish new and/or enhanced governance mechanisms to escalate, oversee and manage the risks threatening the business activities

  • Actively attend relevant governance committees and forums and provide inputs, challenges and advice, where appropriate, to influence the decision making process and voice any concerns regarding decisions impacting the risk profile and/or appetite of the business unit and firm

  • Establish a framework to oversee the activities undertaken within the North America “satellite” businesses i.e. Perkins, Intech, Geneva and Velocity Shares and ensure compliance with the internal risk policies and methodology

  • Escalate in a timely manner any concerns regarding the effectiveness of the governance committees and forums and/or decisions made, where appropriate, to the Global Head of ERBP

 

Risk Exposure Monitoring

  • Lead the design, implementation and embedding of key indicators and risk monitoring dashboards (e.g. business risk profile) to equip the business with tools and mechanisms enabling them to proactively assess and monitor and, where appropriate, effectively manage and mitigate their risk exposures vs. the business and/or firm’s risk appetite statements

  • Regularly monitor and, , escalate any concerns regarding increases in risk exposures and risk appetite breaches Oversee the review and challenge of key indicators values, trends and supporting business rationales;,

  • Escalate any concerns as and when necessary

  • Advise and partner with the business to design and implement appropriate monitoring and mitigating actions where risk exposures are increasing and/or where risk appetite statements have been breached.

 

Policies Attestation Oversight & Procedure Oversight

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of business-owned policies and procedures globally and across all business units, taking into consideration, local regulatory requirements confirmed by the Compliance Department

  • Oversee the delivery and review the outcomes of the policies attestations completed by the business, provide evidence based challenge to influence the attestation status and provide an independent assessment and rationale; escalate any concerns to the Global Head of ERBP

  • Advise and partner with the business to design and deliver appropriate mitigating actions where non-compliance with policies and procedures has been identified. Where required and appropriate, support the business in the completion of waivers and exceptions

  • Monitor and oversee the delivery of remediation actions linked to approved waivers and exceptions to the policies and procedures, support the business to ensure appropriate mitigating actions are put in place so that waivers and exceptions can be removed in a timely manner

 

Risk & Control Self Assessments Coordination

  • Partner with the business to plan, coordinate and deliver the Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) across all business units within the remit of the role.

  • Provide ongoing technical support, challenge and advice to the control and risk owners in order to deliver robust and insightful RCSAs across the business units.

  • Partner with the business in order to ensure timely and appropriate delivery and oversee the documentation of the RCSAs within the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system; ensure compliance with the risk methodology and document risk challenge and approval in the GRC where required.

  • Provide advice to the business to articulate adequate risk mitigating plans and, where applicable, support the articulation of risk acceptances.

  • Oversee the monitoring of risk acceptances; support the business to ensure appropriate mitigating actions are put in place so that risk acceptances can be removed in a timely manner

 

Issues Remediation Monitoring & Support

  • Partner with the business to document issues identified through the completion of Risk and Control Self-Assessments, incidents and lessons learnt, and any findings from the Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit functions, auditors and regulators

  • Support the business in the design of adequate remediation plans ensuring timely and appropriate risk mitigation outcomes based on the business residual risk target and the firm’s risk appetite statement

  • Oversee the delivery of remediation plans and, where applicable, support the business in the remediation of issues by providing constructive challenge, advice and help articulate additional resource requirements where applicable; proactively address and, where applicable escalate, any risks of issues becoming overdue

  • Oversee the review and challenge of evidence provided by the business to support the closure of open issues, where applicable i.e. excluding Internal Audit and Compliance identified issue

  •  Ensure completeness and accuracy of issues and remediation actions documentation within the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system, providing quality assurance where necessary.

 

Risk Events Remediation Oversight

  • Act as primary point of contact for the business when a risk event has been identified, and proactively contribute to the appropriate resolution of the risk event thereafter by facilitating discussions with all impacted teams and stakeholders; chair the major risk event (MRE) committees where applicable

  • Oversee the resolution of the risk events and, where required, provide challenge and advise to ensure that a consistent methodology and approach are followed to keep the interests of the clients and client outcomes a priority; provide regular updates to appropriate stakeholders throughout the risk event resolution

  • Oversee the enrichment of the risk event information documented in the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system

  • Lead the delivery of lessons learnt reviews and agree on remediation actions to ensure that potential future risk events can be proactively avoided

  • Oversee the documentation of major risk event reports and provide final review and sign-off engaging with key stakeholders as appropriate; attend client and Board meetings where necessary to provide updates and answer queries related to risk events and related remediation activities.

 

Deep Dive Delivery, Control Monitoring & Testing

  • Establish and maintain a methodology to undertake control testing and monitoring across the firm globally, taking into account any regulatory requirements where applicable

  • Document and maintain the deep dive, control testing and monitoring plan for the firm globally, liaising with the Compliance and Internal Audit teams to coordinate the delivery of the Combined Assurance Methodology (CAM) plan and limit business disruption and duplication of efforts

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of the deep dive, control testing and monitoring plan, providing technical support to junior members of the ERBP team undertaking the testing where required

  • Review and sign-off on the outcomes of the deep dives, control testing and monitoring delivered by the ERBP team, in particular compliance of the field work with the agreed methodology

  • Oversee and review the production of the deep dives, control monitoring and testing reports, engaging with the business owners where applicable to discuss findings and agree remediation actions

  • Oversee the documentation and maintenance of the deep dives, control testing and monitoring records in the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Business Continuity in the implementation of a comprehensive and effective business continuity management framework for the business units falling within the remit of the role

  • Contribute to the effective use and development of the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system by gathering and providing feedback around the system functionalities to the Enterprise Risk Strategy (ERS) team; where applicable, collaborate on the design and roll-out of changes required to enhance the system

  • Contribute to the effective embedding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework within the business and, where required, gather and provide feedback on any aspects of the framework to the ERS team to enhance the framework and ensure alignment with changes in business strategy and operating models

  • Actively participate in project steering groups, working groups and any other type of stakeholder meetings by providing relevant challenge and advice using risk management expertise, tools and business knowledge

  •  Provide ongoing risk training to the business and act as a risk champion for the specific business units. . Escalate any major risk training requirements to the ERS team so that they can be added to the firm-wide risk training plan.

  • Support the delivery of any other activities and tasks as required by the Global Head of ERBP

 

Team Management & Development

  • Support the Global Head of ERBP to discharge their responsibilities and, where necessary, act as the go to and provide cover.

  • Contribute to the articulation of the ERBP team’s strategy, plan and budget processes

  • Plan, oversee, and ensure the timely delivery of the activities and tasks necessary to deliver the objectives of the team using available resources; escalate any delivery risks and issues to the Global Head of ERBP

  • Manage and provide ongoing support, mentoring and training to direct reports and, other members of the team to support their development and success

  • Oversee, review and sign-off the activities and tasks delivered by direct reports, ensuring quality and consistency of team outcomes and alignment to the team brand

  • Maintain appropriate level of knowledge and competencies required to undertake the role and, where necessary, proactively engage with the Global Head of ERBP to discuss development opportunities

  • Regularly engage with direct reports to review performance against the team’s objectives and discuss any development actions; undertake mid-year and year-end annual performance reviews and input into the compensation discussions working closely with the Global Head of ERBP

 

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level with significant relevant industry experience

  • Professional qualification preferred but not essential e.g. IMC, CPA, CFA, IRM etc.

  • Very good understanding of the financial services industry; asset management experience preferred

  • Excellent understanding of risk management methodologies and techniques.

  • Good understanding of regulations in a US and/or UK based environment
