Job Description

A London based financial services firm is seeking to appoint a Senior Investment Risk Analyst.

 

The Role

This senior analyst will be part of the Investment Reporting and Performance (IRP) team. This team sits within the Asset and Fund Services division.). The team's mission is to provide investment analytics services to internal and external clients. The three key services areas are:

  • Service delivery of investment performance & risk analytics for internal and external clients. Risk analytics involve for example VaR calculation, stress testing, back testing and liquidity risk.

  • Client relationship management support for internal and external clients of IRP in the UK

  • Technical expertise and product consulting for internal and external clients of IRP in the UK

 

The roles primary focus will be on:

  • Production Management of ex ante risk analytics as well as supporting delivery of ex post performance and attribution analytics

  • Coordination and relationship management for IRP queries and non standard report requests

  • Providing product knowledge support to the wider business and to clients

  • Subject Matter Expert for transitions and projects on Risk

  • Staff cross-training and coverage

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Service delivery

    • Calculate, provide and interpret investment risk analyses for clients in accordance with client service level agreement (SLA) requirements and/or regulatory standards 

    • Support the delivery of associated performance and/or attribution ex post analyses for the clients

    • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to ensure provision of high level of service

    • Meet regularly with clients as a subject matter expert with a focus on risk analysis

  • Continuous improvement

    • Ongoing development of the IRP risk platform

    • Recommend and implement improvements to service for both clients and, in terms of efficiencies and new products and services

    • Ensure a robust and automated performance process in a controlled environment

    • Investigate, document, report and resolve issues and recommend corrective action where appropriate

  • Operational risk and compliance

    • Identify and alert management to risks, deficiencies and opportunities for re-engineering of controls and processes

    • Ensure operational compliance of all processes with internal policies and procedures

    • Perform other tasks as requested

 

Assist on ad hoc queries and initiatives from the different teams (sales, R&D, product, IT) as a subject matter expert on ex ante risk analytics. Assist with workflow organisation, oversight and delivery.

The team is analytical and client services focused team. To enable them to complete their roles fully, they are required to communicate effectively with:

    • Securities Administration

    • Fund Administration

Skills & Experience

Required:

  • Strong understanding of financial markets and investment management processes, including middle office and risk management functions

  • Understanding and modelling of complex financial instruments such as OTC instruments, Private Equity, Real Estate

  • Risk measurement experience (3-5+ years) from either a custody, funds management background or a bank

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, especially macros (VBA) and database knowledge (Access / SQL). 

  • Knowledge of the relevant industry standards 

  • Knowledge of ex ante risk approaches, especially calculations, models and application to investment strategies; VaR calculation, Stress Testing, Back testing

 

Desirable

  • Performance / attribution analysis knowledge, especially calculations, models and application to investment strategies

  • Statistical software skills​

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent is preferred in a financial, mathematical and/or information technology discipline

  • CFA, FRM, CIPM qualifications preferred
