About The Role

Our client, a leading asset management firm is looking to recruit a Senior Investment Business Development Director to lead their business development activities in the intermediary market.  The specific segments of the intermediary market which the role will focus on include Investment Consultants, Charities, Trustees and other professional introducers such as lawyers and accountants both onshore and in the Crown Dependencies (Channel Islands and Isle of Man). The role is primarily focused on driving flows into our full discretionary management services, but may span our wider investment range.

The role, within the Investment Business Development team, will sit alongside other Business Development teams focusing on their own target markets, such as IFAs and Financial Education.

The role will also involve managing a small team including other Business Development Directors and BD support.


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of the Investment Business Development team’s objectives and targets;

  • Develop and grow productive, business generating relationships in the target market.  This will include existing relationships and new relationships. New relationships will come through existing relationships of the successful candidate as well as identifying brand new relationships;

  • Be able to convincingly articulate the company’s investment proposition to the target market, demonstrating clear and comprehensive investment understanding and knowledge;

  • Raise the company brand profile and reputation in the target markets and act as an ambassador to lead this effort;

  • Attend investment meetings in order to keep investment knowledge current, with both internal and external experts, including the Strategic Policy Committee (SPC)?

  • Build strong and trusted relationships between the Investment Business Development team and the investment management teams;

  • Identify and implement business development initiatives and added value services that can be delivered by the Investment Business Development team to achieve the team’s objectives and targets;

  • Direct and support the Business Development Directors in key business development initiatives including the development of strategy and attendance at business development meetings and presentations as required;

  • Work closely with other business areas such as the Investment Specialist Team, Marketing, Finance and Advice;

  • Work with Marketing to develop and maintain suitable slides, pitch documents and collateral for promoting the investment management proposition within the target market;

  • Develop, refine and improve RFPs to increase the success rate at this stage of the process;

  • Work with the CIO to distribute RFPs equitably and appropriately;

  • Oversee and develop the preparation of the investment teams for presentations and pitches;

  • Develop, oversee and drive the ongoing contact strategy within the target market, including the distribution of communications and the development and attendance at events that support awareness of the brand and proposition;

  • Use and develop the monitoring systems and controls in place to ensure ongoing, accurate and comprehensive management information for reporting;

  • Attend investment team monthly meetings in representation of central Business Development to ensure ongoing communication and to share market intelligence.


Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Fully comply with the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (as amended from time to time) and the rules of The Financial Conduct Authority and any other applicable laws and regulations;

  • Fully comply with the FCA’s statement of Principle and the Code of Practice for Approved Persons and undertake and record sufficient appropriate CPD to evidence that you have adequately maintained their your competence;

  • Fully comply with the relevant Anti-Money Laundering regulations and report promptly any knowledge or suspicion of money laundering activities to the relevant MLRO;

  • Fully comply with the Group and local rules on personal account dealing as set out in the Group Personal Dealing Rules and supplemented by specific additional local requirements set out in the relevant Compliance Manual;

  • Demonstrate adherence to compliance procedures and protocols delivering good conduct risk outcomes as well as Training and Competence;

  • Participate in relevant training courses when requested to do so, in particular anti-money laundering and market abuse training; and communicate and escalate potential issues in a prompt and effective manner.

Person Specification

  • Excellent knowledge of wealth management in the Investment Consultants, Trustees and Charities markets, both onshore and offshore.

  • Have a strong network of relationships already developed and a proven track record of attracting assets in this intermediary space.

  • Experience of managing, developing and getting the best out of people.

  • Good knowledge of IHT, Pension and Personal Taxation and have an understanding of tax structures such as Offshore Bonds, SIPPs, ISAs, and Trusts.

  • Experience working within the intermediated investment market place, with an emphasis on segregated fund management:

  • Strong presentational skills;

  • Strong team player and collaboration skills;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • High energy with good initiative and problem solving skills;

  • High levels of integrity and professionalism;

  • Can demonstrate company Business Principles: Client, Excellence, People and Integrity.

  • CF30 registered

  • Qualified to level 6 RDR compliant or investment equivalent.
