Lawson Chase are recruiting on behalf of a leading international law firm, who are looking to appoint a Senior HR Manager for a 12 month FTC.

Operating within a respected HR team, your role will be to provide advice and guidance on HR programmes, policies and practices, resolve queries and deliver first-class customer service to colleagues across the firm’s international office network.

We are currently recruiting a Senior HR Manager for a 12 month FTC (Maternity cover) who will develop and lead the people strategy for the Dispute Resolution practice group and Paralegal department within London. The purpose of the role is to provide the full range of HR generalist support for their client group(s) from both a strategic and operational perspective, and be responsible for the smooth and successful delivery of HR programmes, processes and initiatives, in line with the firm's priorities.


he Senior HR Manager will also:

  • support organisation effectiveness by developing and implementing solutions aligned to the firm’s strategy;

  • role model great personal and team leadership; and

  • provide coaching and mentoring to the HR Manager, for whom they have line management responsibility,  ensuring consistently high standards of HR service delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy, insight and solutions:

  • Collaborate with the global and local client group partners and leaders, to understand the key business objectives in order to develop and deliver a comprehensive people strategy.

  • Proactively monitor business performance and initiate discussions with client group partners and leaders about the relevant HR action when necessary.

  • Develop and sustain strong business relationships within their aligned client groups to become a trusted advisor.

  • Provide expertise and advice on HR related issues.

  • Collaborate with HR colleagues to drive and implement HR policies and processes within their client groups.

  • Actively participate in management meetings; advise, challenge and support the client group partners and leaders on HR matters.

  • Analyse and present relevant HR data to provide information on the latest thinking and market intelligence in the HR profession and/or the HR strategy.

  • Collaborate with HR colleagues on developing and delivering on various local and global HR initiatives.


Organisation design and development:

  • Lead discussions in respect of future people and workforce requirements, ensuring that designated client groups build a ‘fit for the future’ workforce, in line with the firm’s overall resourcing strategy to enable effective and efficient delivery of services to clients whilst maintaining/improving employee engagement.

  • Challenge partners and leaders within designated client groups on the culture, values and working practices within their teams and lead any change processes that are required as a result.



  • Work with designated client group partners and leaders on resourcing, headcount and strategic workforce planning.

  • Lead and support designated client group partners and leaders with talent management and succession planning.

  • Lead the overall management of the appraisal and remuneration processes for designated client group(s) across London.

  • Be the HR lead for function initiatives and the firm employee engagement survey for designated client groups across London (and on occasion globally).

  • Keep fully up to date with all developments in terms of employee legislation and employee relations issues and utilise this knowledge to advise, guide, support and coach partners, leaders, line managers and direct reports within HR.

  • Act as an escalation point to manage complex and contentious performance, grievance and disciplinary issues including firm managed exits with support from the employee relations team.

  • Lead, motivate and develop direct report(s).

  • Develop positive and effective working relationships with the HR centres of expertise (such as learning & development, employee relations, compensation & benefits, diversity & inclusion, talent management) to deliver a full and seamless HR service to the business.


Skills & Experience


  • 8+ years’ experience in a generalist HR role working at a strategic level.

  • Experience working in change intensive environments.

  • Good project management skills.

  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and best practice.



  • Ideally a graduate with CIPD qualification.

  • Relevant experience in a legal or professional services environment is the natural fit, but the firm will equally consider candidates from other areas providing they can demonstrate an understanding of and aptitude for a partnership environment.

  • Proficient IT skills.
