Job Description

Senior Financial Crime Specialist and Money Laundering Reporting Officer sought to join the London office of a leading US asset and investment management firm.


About The Role

Establish and maintain an effective governance framework and compliance culture within the firm for combating money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions and bribery and corruption. Build relationships with the business areas, relevant senior management and European Board members with responsibility for Anti-Money Laundering, both in Europe and between the firm's businesses globally, ensuring that the boards of the firm's UK and Irish companies are made aware of relevant AML and ABAC matters.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implementing the European Anti-Money Laundering and counter-terrorist financing policy, and the Anti-Bribery and Corruption policy in line with evolving statutory and regulatory obligations.

  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate risk-based governance and monitoring processes that are proportionate to the scale, nature and complexity of the Firms’ UK operations, including oversight of outsourced service providers. Supporting the business in region in its management of AML and ABAC risk by assisting them in the review and implementation of appropriate procedures.

  • Monitoring and interpreting regulatory and enforcement developments in jurisdictions within the region (in conjunction with local Compliance Officers as necessary) and initiating ad hoc reviews of processes where relevant. Liaising with local regulators and relevant industry bodies to identify best practice in region. Undertaking networking opportunities, such as attending appropriate conference, to keep abreast of AML/ABAC compliance issues in the asset management industry.

  • Providing support and guidance for the Compliance team and business areas, both in Europe, and where appropriate, internationally.

  • Ensuring there are sufficient resources in place to execute the AML and ABAC programmed.

  • Acting as a point of regional escalation and contact for operational AML and ABAC matters within region including escalation of specific bribery and corruption issues to the Group Anti-Bribery & Corruption team and Reporting local regulatory breaches to the relevant Heads of Compliance. Liaising with the Ethics Office where relevant on gifts and entertainment provided to Government Employees and approving travel and accommodation offered to Government Employees.

  • Developing, maintaining and delivering face-to-face tailored risk-based AML and ABAC training and keeping relevant records. Ensure that the Boards, the Nominated Officer, and the Irish MLRO are sufficiently trained and supported to execute their roles effectively.

  • Assisting the with maintaining group standards for AML and ABAC systems and controls, including training, monitoring and third-party engagement.

  • In conjunction with the business and other relevant groups, maintaining a list of third parties that perform services for or on behalf of of the company in region and regularly assessing the risks these third party relationships pose to the firm.

  • Participating in special projects and performing other duties as assigned.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Bribery and Corruption experience gained in a similar role or a role within Compliance or a related discipline such as Legal preferably at a regulated global financial institution

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • Knowledge of laws relating to AML and bribery and corruption and experience in interpreting laws or regulations, preferably

  • across EMEA jurisdictions

  • Knowledge of the investment management industry and a good understanding of risk

  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently, without supervision, whilst collaborating and coordinating as part

  • of a global programmed, well organised and ability to prioritise multiple tasks and bring tasks to completion within established

  • timeframes

  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability and attention to detail

  • Good presentation skills with excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to work with all levels of

  • management and Boards

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook)

  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality to the role, keeping all sensitive material confidential

  • Willingness to work outside of the normal working hours and to travel as necessary

This role is evaluated based on the ownership of Financial Crimes and MLRO and the broad scope of covering the European markets.
