Job Description

Senior Audit Executive sought to join a leading independent insurance brokerage firm, in London. You will assist the Head of Internal Audit in taking a lead role in planning and conducting all internal audit activity. The role of the Senior Internal Audit should always be conducted in line with the functions, objectives and KPIs as outline in the “Internal Audit Protocols – Final Terms of Reference” and the “Service Charter for Internal Audit” for the firm's International operations.


Key Responsibilities 

  • This is a lead role in developing and implementing an annual risk-based internal audit plan, taking into account the assurance requirements of key stakeholders.

  • Assist in promoting the internal audit offering to key stakeholders and respond to assurance requests. 

  • Proactively work with key stakeholders in developing terms of reference documents for Internal Audits and Reviews as well as adequate Audit work programs meeting IIA standards and best practice.

  • Maintaining a strong understanding of the identified risks faced by the Group as well as the threat posed by emerging risks by staying abreast of developments in the internal and external environments; 

  • Lead the review of the adequacy and effectiveness of the policies and processes in place to identify and manage key risks in the organisation.  

  • Reviewing the reliability and integrity of financial and operating information, and the means used to identify measure, classify and report such information.  

  • Reviewing the systems established to ensure compliance with those policies, plans procedures, laws and regulations that could have a significant impact on operations and reports, and determine whether or not the organisation is in compliance.  

  • Reviewing the policies and systems in place to ensure adequate management of conduct and reputational risks; 

  • Reviewing the means of safeguarding assets and, where appropriate, verifying the existence of such assets.  

  • Assessing the effective conduct of its operations with regards to the economic and efficient management of the organisation's financial, human and other resources.  

  • Reviewing operational programmes to ascertain whether or not the operations are being carried out in line with established objectives and goals.  

  • Taking ownership for the records related to the monitoring of the corrective action plans and managing support and resources to ensure that management implements them promptly and effectively.  

  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvements and adoption of industry best practices in terms of process execution, internal controls, governance, ethics and compliance.  

  • Ensure the quality and completeness in a timely manner of internal audit work and working papers is in accordance with the Internal Audit Terms of Reference and IIA standards.  

  • Taking proactive steps to maintain a good knowledge of general internal audit, insurance and regulatory issues,  

  • Proactively assist the Head of Internal Audit in producing papers for Board Committees and working groups as requested e.g. Audit, Risk & Control, IT Security, Data Security, Financial Crime and Regulatory Breaches. 


Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Fully qualified ACCA/ ACA with relevant +3 years of post qualified professional audit/ finance experience or a Legal/ Compliance/ Risk Management/ Insurance Broking professional. 

  • Strong understanding of the principles and application of good corporate governance, business and operational risk and control processes and procedures.  

  • Strong knowledge of assurance and audit procedures, including risk driven audit planning techniques and methods used to examine, verify and analyse business and financial operations, information, records, statements and reports, and the requirements of the "Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing".  

  • Strong knowledge of the principles, procedures and techniques of accounting, and of financial records and transactions.  

  • Good knowledge of the principles of information technology to conduct assurance activities related to the computer environment. 

  • Strong ability to gain the confidence and respect of management and staff through attributes such as professionalism and positive attitude.  

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar software applications.  

  • Knowledge of additional language is desirable  (Spanish, Portuguese or Mandarin)

  • Protects the confidentiality of information learned by performing position duties.   


Additional Information

This role is based in London, with approximately 40% international travel.
