Our client, a London based asset management is looking to hire an experienced Proposition/Product Manager with a strong financial services product background.  Ideal candidates will have experience of either advice and/or investment propositions.


The Role

This role will be responsible for managing the product governance and proposition, so the person will have knowledge of how advice and investment components work together to create a seamless and integrated client outcome in a successful financial planning environment.  As the proposition will work with and through all areas of the business, the candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to converse with all levels within the company, from adviser through to senior executive, to help shape strategy, deal with challenges, and understand the detail of the integrated client proposition.

The role will be a key part of the forward looking Proposition Committee and Product and Services Committee, which is responsible for: defining the integrated advice and investment proposition, and in so doing understand competitor propositions; developing the integrated proposition for new and existing clients; and supporting the messaging and training of this proposition both internally and externally.

In particular, this person will be supporting the Integrated Committee and functional business areas in providing clarity and support for:


Defining the client experience, it’s key features and benefits to the end client:

  • How advice and investment from the same firm improve client outcomes?

  • Looking at and considering the client experience, what should this should feel like for a client?

  • Undertake research to understand what clients and prospects would value from an integrated proposition.

  • What is the company actually doing at each stage of the advice to investment to monitoring process that makes this so powerful?

  • How does the proposition leverage the company’s strengths and capabilities?

  • Why and how is it different from other integrated providers?

  • Competitor analysis and pricing?

  • What does the company still need (resources and capabilities) to support this proposition?

  • How does the company integrate specific segments, such as ‘at retirement’?


Specifically with respect to the existing proposition / products/ capabilities?

  • How does investment tie into cash flow modelling and ATR?

  • Integrating fact find/risk profile/suitability across Bespoke and Advice.

  • Suitability matrix for existing investments for internal and external advisers – cost/VAT/risk/style etc

  • How does integrated work with Advice light and SD?

  • Explaining the value of advice to Bespoke clients.

  • How does the company integrate advice with CITS.



  • How does the company ensure that it captures the firm’s proposition message in collateral, pitch books and marketing material?

  • What implications does this have for seminars and BD messaging?

  • How does the company bring along and train key business areas to articulate, support and deliver the proposition?

  • How doe the company enhance market recognition of the company’s capabilities: industry awards, thought-leadership pieces?


Development & enhancements to existing products/propositions:

  • Secretariat to both Proposition and Product & Service Committees

  • New product developments or product enhancements for advice and/or investment

  • Authoring, managing and gaining sign off of the “New Business Initiative” (NBI) paperwork for review and sign off by the Proposition Committee.

  • Product Review process (for PSC) – assume primary responsibility

  • Fees and competitiveness review - project

  • Maintenance of Product Governance Distribution Policy and Product Manual

  • Maintenance of the Product and Instrument Register

  • Special projects that may driven by the regulator, the business as required


Marketing & business development

  • Channel Support – incl. IFA channel (e.g. SimpleBiz and 360 relationships/data management/due diligence visits, Defaqto data submissions), CITS (eg SJP/Allenbridge returns), Advice, BD team.

  • Platform relationship management – ensure funds adequately represented on main platforms and that legals up to date. Monitor activity levels.

  • Relationship Support – e.g. BNYM, VAM, TP, Smith & Williamson.

  • Ad Hoc projects (MiFID II)

  • Liaison with/support for Operations Team (Northwich)- e.g. Fact Sheets, Accounts, OCF’s, rebates management, legals agreements, projects (sunset clause), ad hoc queries.

  • Rationalisation/standardisation of collateral across channels.


Compliance related

  • Quarterly review of business collateral (with compliance) incl. review/updating of HNW and CITS master slide decks, “expiring” documents review.

  • Maintenance of Key Marketing Procedures document.

  • Review and Co-Comply sign-off of “Weekly” and other collateral.


Regulatory responsibilities

  • Keep up to date with the regulations to understand what changes are underway in relation to Advice and Investment Solutions

  • Understand the implications that this has on the Products and potential impact to the Proposition

  • To assess the impact of any industry wide regulations in relation to advice and investment.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with regulatory framework relevant to the role, whilst practising effective risk management taking account of outcomes for clients.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Working toward or qualified to Level 4 (RDR)

  • Demonstrate good knowledge of financial planning advice areas – in particular Investment, IHT, Pension and Personal Taxation in terms of investment management requirements and inputs.

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of tax structures used by IFA’s – Offshore Bonds, SIPPs, ISAs, and Trusts in support of investment mandates.

  • Holds suitable experience working within financial services market place, experience of working on projects or as a consultant.

  • Written and oral presentation skills.
