Job Description

Operational and Counterparty Risk Officer sought to join a well-known investment management firm, based in London.

 

The Role

Manage the development of the Operational Risk Framework, assist in the development of the Counterparty Risk Framework and further embed an appropriate risk culture within the organisation.

Protect the enterprise value of the company through identification of both financial and non-financial risks. Our strategy is targeted towards ensuring on-going identification, monitoring and mitigation of Operational and Counterparty risks by developing techniques and frameworks that best fit the organisation and its specific set of circumstances.

 

Counterparty Risk Management

Provide independent oversight of counterparty risk exposures across all client portfolios through identification, measurement and reporting. The department also covers the on-boarding of counterparty brokers and ithe due diligence requirements from an independent credit oversight perspective of Custodians, ISDA Counterparties and Prime Broker Counterparties.

 

Operational Risk Management

Provide independent oversight of operational processes. Develop and maintain operational risk management framework which is principally focussed on analysing, reporting and timely escalation of operational incidents. The department also covers critical oversight of IT security issues including Cyber Risks and Operational Resilience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Help manage the Counterparty Risk Framework

  • Manage and maintain the broker on-boarding process

  • Measure and quantify counterparty risk exposures across client portfolios and produce regular reports for management

  • Manage the implementation of operational and counterparty risk metrics so that the business can measure and monitor risk exposures versus risk appetite

  • Help manage the implementation and further development of the Operational Risk Frameworks for

  • Help manage the ICAAP process for Europe

  • Help manage the RCSA program for conducting assessments on critical business units

  • Perform risk assurance tests in support of the RCSA and ISAE 3402 process

  • Follow up on risk mitigation action plans as required

  • Project manage the ISAE 3402 project or

  • Participate in the risk assessments of new projects, initiatives and new products

  • Report to Head of Operational & Counterparty Risk escalating existing and emerging risks issues

  • Awareness of current risk and regulatory issues

  • Close working relationship: Legal, Compliance, Product, Operations, Investment Risk and Portfolio Managers at all levels. Also close liaison with Group Risk and Internal Audit as required.

Legal and Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and internal Compliance requirements, including, but not limited to, the Compliance manual and Compliance policies and procedures as issued from time to time: Financial Security requirements, including but not limited to, the prevention of Financial Crime and Fraud including reporting obligations to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer.

  • Maintain appropriate knowledge to ensure to be fully qualified to undertake the role. Complete all mandatory training as required to attain and maintain competence.

 

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree level educated

  • Qualified risk manager from a financial services background, preferably within asset management and from current risk management orientated role

  • Operational risk background with a proven track record of delivering and improving existing frameworks to include Risk Control Self Assessments, Key Risk Indicators, Errors investigation and management and risk reporting or Counterparty risk background with desire to broaden into Operational Risk

  • Strong communication skills Effective verbal and written communication

  • Investigative, Analytical and Interpretative skills

  • Initiative

  • Strong ability to manage multiple

  • Competencies required

  • high impact tasks simultaneously  Highly motivated, self-starter

 

Desirable

  • Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and/or Professional Risk Manager (PRM), CFA

  • Exposure to hedge funds and Prime Brokers

  • Experienced in counterparty risk management, covering Prime Brokerage, ISDA and risk monitoring

  • Experience of ICAAP

  • French speaking
