About The Role

The purpose of this role is to help increase efficiency, provide exceptional client service and increase profitability on our most complex matters through effective legal project management. Working with the partner and a specific client team you will also work with people across all four of our disciplines (legal, cyber, intelligence and advisory) and other internal teams, particularly the Risk and Compliance and the Clients and Market team. You will be working to help us manage client matters more efficiently with a particular focus on one key client; as well as working with the Clients and markets team to project manage our business development activities for the Asia region.

We are looking for an experienced legal project manager with experience of scoping, scheduling, pricing and profitability, proposal writing, managing resources, risks and issues, identifying and managing stakeholders. You will be a hardworking, enthusiastic team player, with a high level of organisational, attention to detail, writing and communication skills. 

Knowledge /  Experience

The role involves direct client contact so excellent communication, professionalism and interpersonal skills are essential and previous experience as a project manager in a law firm or professional services firm on client facing, fee-earning or legal projects is essential. 

Working closely with lead partners, you will help deliver the efficient management of complex legal matters, and will relieve busy lawyers of key non-legal activities by supporting client teams to better manage project scope and delivery, resulting in capturing out of scope revenue, minimising write-offs, and improving overall matter efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the lead partner and matter manager through the lifecycle, specifically: 
  • Scoping; budgeting; setting up project phases – Preparation of project plans / timelines for internal and external use 
  • Execution - co-ordinating work effort; status reporting; liaising with client and communicating progress; tracking scope changes
  • Financial management: on-going monitoring of fees, run rates and other key financial metrics; regular updates to the client on fees and disbursement; review of fee-earner narratives to ensure they are to the client agreed format – Updates to project plans / timelines 
  • Co-ordinate issue of risk and compliance with the Risk and Compliance team
  • Co-ordinate cross-function / jurisdictional activity
  • Co-ordinate creation and execution of work plans
  • Ensure effective communication with other internal teams and counsel (internal and external); and that the communication plan is adhered to 
  • Provide timely updates to matter partner and matter manager on potential issues identified 
  • Supporting the project close and review process including: updating project plans / timelines; review matter finances; facilitate learning for future similar matters 
  • Identify improvements to work product and processes and support implementation of their improvement
  • You will also be involved in business development for the Asia region.


Key Requirements

  • Experience as a project manager in a law firm or professional services firm on client facing, fee-earning legal projects, management experience a big plus;
  • An understanding and appreciation of the issues of privacy and  confidentiality 
  • Knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct a plus;
  • An knowledge or interest in information security and cyber security is a big advantage as is an understanding of intelligence and investigations;
  • Degree level qualification; 
  • Experience in leading and managing complex projects (to time and budget) 
  • Advanced organisational and influencing skills, flexibility of style, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast paced, detail-oriented environment 
  • Possess a high degree of initiative and independent judgment with excellent troubleshooting, decision-making, and follow-through skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders 
  • High-level interpersonal skills to facilitate communication in person, by email, and telephone with professionalism and diplomacy
  • High level of IT proficiency including Microsoft Office 
  • Desirable to have project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2) 
  • Experience of or desire to develop business development skills
  • Willingness to undertake business travel or work flexible hours to accommodate support for overseas trips
