Job Description

We are working closely with a high-profile asset management firm, who are looking to appoint Legal Counsel to join their London based team.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Legal, the primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to the management of legal risk across the firm’s wealth management business, with a primary focus on contracts with clients, distributors and vendors.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements required in connection with products and services, and advising on associated risks.

  • Reviewing and drafting standard terms with clients, distributors and third-party managers, including: - advising on counterparty queries;

    • drafting updates in connection with proposition developments and regulatory changes;

    • advising on unfair terms legislation and the regulator’s approach, and the continuous review and improvement of standard terms;

    • advising on the notification of updates to standard terms, and associated requirements and procedures.

  • Legal support on projects as required.

  • Close regular liaison with Compliance.

  • Day to day support for client-facing teams on relevant queries.

  • Advising on internal and external contract related queries, claims and disputes. • Effective management of external advisers where necessary.

  • Team support as required.

  • Other, as reasonably required by Head of Legal

 

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: conveys relevant information clearly, concisely, accurately.

  • Highly organised

  • Consistently demonstrates attention to detail in order to maintain high service levels and robust error control.

  • Able to work effectively under demanding timescales, to prioritise competing priorities and manage expectations.

  • Pragmatic in identification of issues. Able to report key risks, and propose risk mitigation options.

  • Flexible. Commercial. Professional.

  • Team player.

  • Highly literate in Microsoft packages.

  • Strong knowledge of contract and general commercial law.

  • Experience in negotiating contracts and providing commercial advice.

  • Good contract drafting skills: plain English; adherence to enforceability requirements; awareness of relevant case law and legislative developments.

  • Knowledge and experience of the regulatory framework would be desirable.
