About The Role

The purpose of this role is to oversee, challenge and support the investment risk management framework and the oversee management of investment risk exposures within the company across all asset classes and regions.

A core objective of the role is to assure that portfolio-level investment risk and performance issues are being identified, escalated and resolved appropriately; in addition, the role holder will be responsible for the reporting of investment limit breaches to Boards and Committees. The role holder will work with Investment Governance colleagues to establish and oversee appropriate stress testing frameworks and outcomes across company portfolios. In addition, the role holder will support the independent challenge and advice in relation to the analysis and assessment of systemic risks within the collection of portfolios being managed by the company.

The scope of the role will include oversight of risk exposures across market risk, liquidity risk and counterparty risk.

The role holder will support the broader team to oversee the management of investment risk exposures and performance outcomes across public market funds. They will also need to work closely with the Investment Governance team to ensure appropriate coverage of regulatory requirements. The role holder will report into the Investment Risk Oversight Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight, challenge and support the investment risk hard limit breach management process and the reporting of all mandate hard limit breaches

  • Preparing the reporting of investment breaches and key metrics to Boards and Committees to provide assurance on the robustness of first-line investment governance and processes.

  • Working with the Investment Governance colleagues to ensure appropriate escalation and resolution of portfolio hard risk limit breaches and portfolio performance issues

  • Tracking issues of concern to the Investment Risk Oversight Manager and the Head of Investment Risk Oversight which may be escalated internally and/or tabled on the agendas of subcommittees of the Enterprise Risk Management Committee so that they can be addressed in a timely and effective manner;

  • Provide assurance and challenge around the risk controls and measures in place for company portfolios, to ensure they provide effective risk management and reporting of the investment risks to which they are exposed;

  • Support the Investment Risk Oversight Manager on advising on the global financial stability agenda as it impacts the company

  • Support the Investment Risk Oversight Manager systemic footprint analysis; assessing the market capacity to support strategies, products and enterprise-wide holdings

 

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent report writing, verbal and written communication, presentation skills – demonstrate the ability to present the risk exposure and the appropriate risk management to clients, boards, internal groups and regulators

  • Analytical skills and the ability to understand complex issues

  • Questioning, analysis, critical thinking – not taking problems at face value, looks at issues from different angles

  • Tenacity – takes personal responsibility for pursuing a line of action and does not take an easy option

  • Attention to detail – takes personal responsibility to ensure that work meets the highest quality standards

  • Solid knowledge of risk management tools, techniques, frameworks

  • Strong understanding of incidents resolution from identification to the control enhancements

  • Experience in the asset management industry

  • Strong knowledge and interpretation of regulations related to investment risk and liquidity risk management

  • Good understanding of investment risk analytics such as VaR, stress-tests etc.

  • Good knowledge of financial instruments and investment strategies

  • Ability to act on own initiative and fulfil objectives with minimum supervision

  • Result-oriented with good organizational skills – sense of urgency, meeting deadlines

  • Keen interest in financial markets. Inquisitive and keen to learn

  • Proficient PowerPoint and Excel skills

  • Team working skills – listens and considers the views of others

  • Building strong positive relationships across stakeholders and influencing skills – takes action to build own reputation and credibility with others

  • Good undergraduate degree

  • IMC/CFA/PRM would be advantageous or prepared to undertake such qualification
