The Role

You will closely with and supporting the HR Advisory Manager (who will manage the allocation of such activities), work across all Service Lines and the Executive Layer:

  • Leading the end to end management of complex ER cases across all Service Lines and the Executive Layer that are not appropriate for management by the TSS or the HR Advisors. Referring standard cases to TSS.  Engage with HR Advisors and Employee Relations to support complex cases as appropriate in line with the company Talent Operating Model. Initially ER case portfolios will focus on UK&I Assurance with a view that cases from other SLs will be allocated as workload capacity allows.

  • Leading/project managing or providing support on the preparation, delivery and implementation of people change programmes and initiatives  (TUPE, mergers, Acquisitions, reorganisation, redundancy etc) across the UK&I region, where advice and support is not required to have a SL centric knowledge including but not limited to:

    • the preparation, project management, delivery and implementation of such programmes;

    • providing legal and commercial advice to the relevant stakeholders;

    • leading/delivering (or supporting) the project management (and provide appropriate advice) of re-organisations, redundancy programs (including design of scoring and support with collective consultation), TUPE, mergers and acquisitions etc.

  • Proactively identifying development needs of key stakeholders/groups to improve understanding of ER management, UK employment law and UK policies and procedures and deliver training to meet these development needs.

  • Working with the HR Advisory Manager, proactively identify actions and initiatives that will continue to enhance the operational HR service delivery to the UK&I Region

  • Supporting HR Advisory Manager to coach/educate key individuals, especially HR Advisors on a reactive basis to support specific cases.

  • Contributing and participating in cross SL or firm-wide projects to support UK&I people agenda.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing sound and pragmatic advice and support to managers/counsellors up to and including Partner level, including those overseas, on complex employee relations issues.  End to end management of cases will include, but not be limited to, attendance and participation at formal meetings, investigations, drafting/reviewing all correspondence and providing advice, guidance and solutions based on best practice and in line with business needs

  • Analysing and assessing the risks associated with individual cases, including the impact on the individual, team and wider business, consulting with the Employee Relations Team as appropriate

  • Managing relationships with stakeholders by setting expectations, communicating status, analysing issues, responding to concerns and providing support throughout the process by applying commercial and pragmatic thought to available solutions

  • Leading, project managing or providing support on organisational change programs (eg redundancies, reorganisations, TUPE, Mergers, acquisitions, headcount restructures etc) are proposed across all UK&I Service Lines as required and allocated by HR Advisory Manager. Giving advice on UK legislation and implications to stakeholders ensuring proposals are in line with both statutory and local business approaches. Liaise with and brief local HRBC teams if additional support is required for consultation activity

  • Coaching and upskilling counsellors and managers (including those based overseas) to enable ongoing effective capability, disciplinary, grievance, absence and OH management of UK based employees

  • Maintaining the relevant MI tracker in a timely manner for your own cases and projects to enable HR Advisory Manager to analyse data and report at a UK&I level

  • Working with the HR Advisory Manager analyse and identify trends and provide regular reporting to key stakeholders to establish potential root cause of identified trends and recommend actions/help to develop solutions

  • Ensuring CBS HR Leader and UK&I Head of HRBCs are kept up to date in relation to organisation change programme progress and high risk ER cases. Report Global Code of Conduct breaches to UK GCO in line with policy requirements informing Head of ER

  • Supporting HR Advisory Manager to provide coaching and support to other Talent Team colleagues (particularly HR Advisors) to upskill on ER knowledge

  • Supporting HR Advisory Manager to provide advice and support on occupational and psychological health issues and other related topics as required by the team or individuals within the business and upskill HR Advisors to do the same

  • Attending the monthly HRBC team meetings to share knowledge/lessons learnt on cases/programmes managed.


Skills & Experience

  • A skilled HR manager who is self-directive, self-managing and autonomous.  With the ability to deal with ambiguity and complex situations and advise business with limited support or guidance

  • Solid experience of dealing with complex individual Employee Relations cases up to and including liaison with external third parties

  • Evidence of supporting, coaching and developing junior colleagues as well as peers

  • Evidence of having dealt with busy work load in an organised manner, juggling multiple priorities and with attention to detail where there are competing demands on workload and deliverables

  • Strong written English, well-structured and precise. Strong verbal influencing skills

  • Comfortable with Excel (Intermediate level) and with manipulating data

  • Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner

  • Confidence to provide advice professionally and assertively to senior business leaders, both verbally and in writing.


Key Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of UK Employment Law and employee relations. Hands on experience of leading organisational change programmes and dealing with complex capability management, disciplinaries, grievances, absence/OH cases, redundancies, TUPE etc.

  • Ability to operate at a senior level and deal confidently with function leaders and other senior people. You need to be comfortable with transformational change agendas and has experience in understanding how to achieve sustainable change within the business. Experience of dealing and influencing challenging stakeholders is essential.

  • Ideally you will also hold an HR qualification, ideally CIPD qualified
