Job Description

About The Role

  • Work with the head of Portfolio and Data Insights to establish a best practice platform enabling client self-service, excellence in production execution/delivery, getting the best out of third party systems and regulatory reporting.

  • Work with the head of Portfolio and Data Insights to define and communicate the Data Layer Management strategy.

  • Promote good practice in data governance, data management and knowledge management. Ensure that tools in support of these activities are fit for purpose, well supported and that team members know how and when to use them.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping others develop themselves, educating them and sharing knowledge in best practice.

  • Identifying datasets that would benefit from being centralised, modelled and engineered to a higher standard for the benefit of internal stakeholders.

  • Act as an owner in help shape the direction and priorities in analytics systems engineering and data pipeline ETL activities.

  • Contribute to the program of projects and regular team/ad hoc tasks.

  • Be an important voice in the team in matters relating to objectives, strategies and tactics.

  • Contribute to the wider goals of team – building direct relationships with stakeholders and network around the wider analytics/data science community.

  • Creative approach to coming up with different ways to slice up risk and performance or create new, insightful analysis on funds.

  • Work with Fund managers in regular 1-2-1 or oversight meetings covering all aspects of investment risk, performance and other relevant metrics to help manage the portfolio in the client’s best interest.

  • Contribution to the development of bespoke fund risk analysis, per investment desk.

  • Production of ad hoc reports for the business, focused on issues in the prevailing markets.

  • Support Portfolio Management where variances to their Investment Philosophy, Investment Process, and Fund/Product Positioning are identified and identify what has caused these variances.

  • Present PMAR results to investment professionals and senior leaders.

  • Support Distribution with analysis on new investment ideas for clients.

  • Work directly with Portfolio Management teams to identify and implement enhancements to their processes to ensure investment strategies are consistent with communicated philosophy.

  • Develop best practice and strong working external relationships with Clients, Third Party platforms and Analytical, Data, and system providers.

  • Develop best practice and strong working internal relationships with Portfolio Managers, Product Development, Marketing, Risk, Compliance, IT and Distribution Teams.

  • Provide MIS that detail the SWOT of Process and the use of Data and Technology.

  • Create meeting reviews with stakeholders on a frequent basis and provide MIS to senior management. Escalation of issues to senior management.

  • Be proactive in raising and resolving issues that impact the timeliness and quality of the Client Reporting function.

  • Assist IT to develop new systems/feeds and enhance existing feeds.  This may include investigating the data requirements for new instrument types, sourcing this data and testing outputs.

  • Work closely with other members of the team, providing mentoring and technical support, as appropriate.

  • Assist the team in suggesting new analytics that will be beneficial to Fund Managers and senior management in the understanding of investment risk.

  • Be an effective SME on all outstanding projects that impact PDI.

  • Respond to direct requests from Fund Managers and proactively interact with them


 

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong project, analytical, leadership and system skills to think both tactically/ strategically but also understand the detailed elements of stakeholders.

  • Strong reporting/engagement skills and a track record of delivery. Ensuring efficient processing / reporting for key events within the teams.

  • At least 5 Years Investment Management experience covering investment processes, portfolio construction, risk modelling and quantitative research in order to support and validate investment philosophies and processes.

  • Knowledge of risk models and concepts such as tracking error, VaR, and stress testing methodologies together with an appreciation of their limitations – application to non- linear and non-standard strategies.

  • Strong mathematical skills and a track record of problem solving.

  • A track record in developing tools for front office use.

  • Performing data analysis on global Indexes, collecting and structuring data, checking data quality and building statistical tools to analyse new data sets.

  • Produce risk, stress test, optimized portfolios and performance attribution across investment strategies.

  • Meaningful job experiences of using VBA, SQL and relational databases.

  • A track record of financial/data modelling.

  • At least five years’ experience in one programming language – R, Python, MATLAB.

  • Experience of GITHUB.

  • Use of Business Intelligence software (Tableau / Power BI).

  • Experience of ETL software like (Alteryx).

  • Statistical analysis, robust interpretation and report writing capability.

  • Relevant degree in quantitative discipline (ideally to masters’ level).

  • Professional qualification or working towards very desirable – IMC, CFA, FRM.

  • Knowledge of fixed income, equity, fund of fund and derivative instruments (types, valuation/pricing, risks), plus associated indices.

  • Ability to work with ESG data sets.

  • Knowledge of portfolio analytics across asset classes and the calculation methodologies behind these.

  • Knowledge of risk and performance attribution methodologies and the calculation methodologies behind these.

  • Good networking capability in terms of validating internal offerings vs best practice.

  • Keeping abreast of industry trends, academic research and financial market movements.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of Visual Studio.

  • Big data experience such as Hadoop.

  • Working knowledge of EZE, Financial Express, Bloomberg, Style Analytics, Barra, UBS Delta, Morningstar and Factset tools or similar systems beneficial.
