Job Description

This is a new role created to help the client fulfil its commitment to be the best it can be as a business that thrives on the quality and engagement of its people. With it a new HR department will be created, with a clear agenda to develop and deliver a holistic and coherent global people strategy that stretches from recruitment and development to performance and remuneration. The head of HR will be a leader and focal point for a company culture that emphasises shared values and rewards.

 

The Role

The head of human resources is responsible for developing and implementing global people strategy, including retention, reward, development, performance, internal communications and recruitment at all levels of the company. He or she is based in London, but a remit that extends across our international office network.

Reporting to the COO, and working closely with the senior management team, the head of HR has a team of three in London and a clear remit to adopt new approaches to talent management and leadership development, as well to ensure that our HR processes and admin are the best they can be.

 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Oversight, management and coordination of the HR function

  • Build a strong relationship with the senior team to develop and implement a global people strategy

  • Lead an evolution of company culture based on employee engagement, shared values and rewards Assist the senior team in designing the organisation to meet the future needs of the business

 

Talent management and resourcing

  • Develop and manage of systems for:

    • talent planning

    • talent sourcing

    • talent identification

    • onboarding and orientation

  • Manage and coordinate the group’s training and staff improvement programme and budget

  • Oversee career and succession planning across the business

  • Assist the senior team with senior level resourcing

 

Performance management and remuneration

  • Evolve the performance management system to one based on ‘great conversations’ and a clear and transparent reward model

  • Develop and monitor a reward strategy that is aligned to the goals of the business

  • Lead performance and reward calibration meetings

  • Manage disciplinary and grievance processes

 

Leadership development

  • Develop and manage a leadership training programme

  • Coach managers to ensure consistent performance, behaviour and communication aligned to company strategy

 

Internal communications

  • Take ownership of internal communications to drive company culture and change behaviour

  • Promote equality and diversity throughout the company

  • Measure employee satisfaction and communicate it to the senior team

 

Change management

  • Guide and assist the senior team in communicating and managing change

  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and effective risk management

  • Seek and evaluate techniques, systems and technologies to improve HR processes

  • Effectively manage key changes in the business

 

Skills & Experience

  • Experience and understanding of human resources in a professional services context

  • Strong track record as an HR generalist

  • Practical and solutions oriented with a genuine enthusiasm to drive positive change

  • Excellent, organisational, communications and interpersonal skills

  • Able work effectively with senior team members and willing to challenge constructively

  • Established relationships with relevant selection/search communities

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law is essential and highly desirable for other relevant jurisdictions (e.g. USA)

  • Two years experience in HR management at a mid to senior level

  • At least five years experience in HR operations

  • Adept at embracing new technologies to achieve efficiency, as well as using office suite software

  • Degree and/or CIPD level 5 qualification required

 

Targets

  • Articulate and assess employee value proposition and its relationship to business success

  • Develop and deliver against a group people strategy that attracts and retains the best talent

  • Review and improve performance management processes to ensure that staff have a clear and regular  feedback that is connected to reward

  • Build in consistency of skills and capabilities through training and coaching at all levels

  • Identify and address deficiencies in employee satisfaction

  • Create a company culture of openness and positivity that drives loyalty and performance

 

Other Relevant Information

  • This is an executive role that will require some flexibility in working hours

  • The HR team is responsible for aspects of office management and travel administration. It is largely self sufficient in these respects but line management will lie with the Head of HR.

  • The role is global in focus, but is London-based. Some international travel may be necessary, but is likely to be infrequent.
