Job Description

A leading London based financial services firm is currently looking to appoint a Global Affairs Advisor.

 

The Role

Over the past five years the company has invested in strengthening its relationship with DFID Private Sector Team. This has supported both the formal shareholder relationship and resulted in a greater shared understanding between the two organisations.

Due to its importance, the relationship with DFID sits across multiple individuals, teams and levels. This role will provide a central resource to help facilitate those relationships and help build a holistic approach to our engagement

 

Purpose of the Role

  • Proactively manage the company relationship with the Department for International Development (DFID)

  • Work to identify and manage collaboration opportunities with DFID that assist the delivery of the firm’s five-year strategy

  • Provide internal coordination on DFID-related matters and increase understanding of DFID priorities within both organisations

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Global Affairs, proactively manage the DFID relationship effectively representing the company’s views and long-term interests

  • Organise, implement and maintain effective channels of communication (e.g. weekly DFID meeting; manage the DFID portal)

  • Act as a first point of contact for DFID requests identifying how best to answer them and effectively manage such requests in a timely and sensitive manner

  • Liaise with other teams and overseas offices to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the interaction and effective working between the company and DFID

  • Support the Corporate Secretariat with formal shareholder reporting processes (e.g. the agenda for Quarterly Shareholder Meetings, preparation of management reports)

  • Advance the DFID collaboration agenda - including proactive management of Ministerial visits, inductions, delegations and inputs into DFID strategic documents

  • Understand DFID’s wider economic development priorities and increase awareness and understanding of DFID programming among staff (e.g. articulating where we fit in the country’s economic development strategy)

  • Increase understanding of the firm among DFID staff – positioning the company as the go-to expert in investment / development finance

  • Oversee and ensure protocols and systems are functioning effectively

  • Undertake any projects directed by the Head of Global Affairs

 

Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of how the UK Government and political environment operates – with a track record of influencing outcomes.

  • Experience of working within the UK Government. Experience at working within DFID or in private office would be an advantage.

  • Demonstrable understanding of international development policy, development finance and the financial sector would be an advantage

  • Proven ability to work with senior leadership team

  • Willingness to undertake occasional travel inside and outside of the UK
