Job Description

Our client is seeking a Front Office RAD Developer Lead to provide intermediate level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases for mainframe-, client/server-, Web-, and/or PC-based systems, under supervision of a senior developer.

 

The Role

This posting is for a Developer III who is looking to make an impact by being a founding member of the Development Team in the U.K.  As a member of the team, you will interact with the Portfolio Management and Data Management solutions. You will be part of the EUC/RAD team who works closely with the end users to derive competitive-advantage and commercial differentiation with the use of technology in the front office activity. Additionally, you will have exposure to existing applications in both the U.K. and Australia.    

Developers with strong analytical skills and a background in data and / or investment management can expect to have a visible role implementing changes to the complex global trading processes that are at the center of Vanguard’s investment management. Candidates should be interested in a fast paced group that supports and enhances the trading desks across the globe.

The company utilizes a variety of technologies to deliver solutions. Working as part of the wider equity technology group, the team liaises closely with the business and delivers and supports software to meet a wide variety of business and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be part of a business facing development team to deliver new solutions to the business.

  • Work with other developers, Business Analysts and testers as part of the wider team within the business.

  • Design, develop, test and support application solutions (assisting in production issue resolution)

  • Compliance with defined code and documentation standards, including peer reviews.

  • Re-engineering highly complex program components including code generation

  • Integrating software packages residing on multiple platforms

  • Understand / review functional specifications and translate into program specifications

  • Participation in decisions regarding the integration of software packages and programs

  • Translation of business requirements into program specifications and writing code from the functional description

  • Liaise with end users for user acceptance testing

  • Carry out 3rd Line support as required.

  • Report on progress to line manager, escalating issues promptly

  • Comply with any audit requirements

  • Co-ordinate with 3rd party providers as required

  • Self-organised with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects and with competing business demands and priorities

  • Focused on delivering value to the business with relentless efforts to improve process

  • Positive attitude, approaches tasks with enthusiasm, challenges requirements appropriately

  • Proactively manage risks and issues to ensure delivery plans are not impacted

  • Assist Line Manager in leading and motivating the team and champion a quality ethos within the constraints of the business priorities and pressures

 

Key Requirements

  • Degree with a significant computing portion preferred

  • Demonstrable relevant commercial experience in a buy side firm, preferably in a front office capacity

  • The candidate must have significant experience in a similar role

  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills

  • Willing to learn new programming technologies

  • Ability to work well with both business managers, traders and developers

  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly and excellent problem solving skills.

  • Understanding of investment trading lifecycle

  • Must be able to perform well under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience using front office End User Computing (EUC) development tools (Excel 2016, Access, VBA)

  • Strong Python development skills

  • Previous experience working directly with end users to solicit requirements and quickly develop solutions.

  • Experience working with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)

  • Ability to effectively communicate with technology staff and business partners

  • Ability to work effectively as a teammate and build collaborative/partnership relationships across a global organisation

  • Excellent aptitude for learning, experimenting and picking up new technologies quickly

  • Knowledge of at least one core software development language (.Net, C#, VB, Java etc.)

  • Experience in an Agile software development process

  • Understanding of SWIFT protocol
