Job Description

The Role

The role sits in the Sustainable Investment team which has expanded to 17 people, covering a wide range of activities from thematic research, company analysis, portfolio monitoring, screening, corporate governance actions, client communication and marketing and discussions with policy makers and other stakeholders.  Our primary focus is working with analyst and fund manager colleagues to strengthen investment decisions through effective analysis and integration of ESG issues in investment processes.

The primary objective of ESG integration is to improve the way investment analysts and fund managers consider, analyse and use ESG information to support their investment decision-making from the initial idea generation through to company analysis, as well as portfolio construction and stewardship. The ESG Integration Manager works with investors across our business to drive broad and deep ESG integration.

We are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic candidate to provide maternity cover for that role. Reporting to the Head of Sustainable Research, she/he will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of established ESG integration strategies for individual investment desks.  This will involve working directly with analysts and fund managers to understand their investment processes and supporting them towards strengthening their investment processes. The candidate will also work closely with Sustainable Investment analysts to coordinate their collaboration efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic oversight

  • Overseeing the implementation of the Sustainable Investment team’s ESG integration strategy (the strategy has already been developed and implemented throughout Q1 2019).

  • Refining and expanding the firm’s integration strategy to reflect evolving investor needs and the Sustainability team’s resources and outputs.

Direct integration efforts

  • Acting as a bridge between the Sustainable Investment team and investment desks; working with those teams to support deeper understanding of ESG factors and use of tools and analysis, to ensure they are reflected in investment processes.

  • Implementing specific ESG integration desk plans for 10-12 desks, based on identified objectives and requirements. We have developed accreditation to identify those desks which have demonstrated robust ESG integration

  • Providing advice and support to investment desks starting the journey to accreditation.

  • Organise meetings, call, emails and other communications to ensure the tools and research developed by the Sustainable Investment team are widely disseminated and support the needs of investors. Pick up any follow on actions as appropriate, as well as soliciting feedback on areas of emerging interest across the firm.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience and knowledge of investment processes and decision making criteria, preferably through experience in the asset management industry

  • Strong understanding of key ESG issues and how they are relevant for investors

  • Ability to engage experienced and demanding analysts and fund managers on changes to their investment processes

  • Highly organised with experience of effectively managing multiple work streams spanning multiple stakeholders

  • Analytical and numerate

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Collaborative approach to work
