Job Description

A newly created position for a Director of Governance, Risk & Security for one of London's top Universities.

About The Role

The University is one of the most vibrant universities in London, with more than 20,000 students. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities and four vibrant campuses. This is an institution that never stands still. Good governance is critical to the future success and as Director, you’ll lead progress in this and key related areas.

This is new senior professional role, reporting to the University Registrar, your main task is to lead complex University-wide activities, support and services which underpin our corporate and executive governance including dealing with a wide range of relevant legislation and with specific HE statutory requirements. It’s a chance to manage policy frameworks and to help the University deal with compliance issues related to physical, information and cyber security; and ensure quality and management in relation to our risk framework.

At the same time, you’ll lead strategic initiatives related to this agenda.  In fact, you’ll be an expert, building links with senior leaders, our internal audit team and our legal advisers, and offering accurate guidance. There’ll be a team of specialists to help you provide a first-class service, including Executive Officers who provide professional administration services for the University’s leaders.

Candidate Specification

With a professional qualification and membership of a relevant professional body e.g. ILEX, ICSA or equivalent, you’ll have held a senior role within the HE sector. You must have broad knowledge of relevant legislation and HE statutory requirements, as well as a good grasp of audit and risk management processes.

Your expertise extends to high-level committee work and drafting complex documents. These talents should come with a relevant degree (or equivalent experience). Strong management skills are equally important. You’ll be adept at inspiring staff and pushing political agendas. Articulate, credible and up-to-speed on the Higher Education sector, you’ll ensure the University has full assurance of its governance, impeccable risk and security arrangements and implement best practice across these.
