Job Description

Our client is looking to hire a Compliance Officer to provide a professional compliance service including the maintenance and communication of policies and procedures, managing regulatory submissions and providing general compliance advice to the business.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of the Compliance business plan

  • Undertake and coordinate all compliance monitoring activities across the business, Appointed Representatives and agents

  • Monitor new regulatory mandates, rules and requirements, ensure that compliance policies are kept up to date and that revisions are disseminated in a timely manner

  • Design and implement compliance training and educational programmes; actively participate in management training, including new starter induction programmes

  • Assist in the oversight of compliance processes to ensure appropriate advice in relation to regulatory matters is provided to the business in an effective and efficient manner

  • Provide advice on compliance with applicable laws and regulations to the business, for example in the form of policies and procedures or written updates

  • Assess the possible impact of any regulatory development on the operations of the business and work with the business with regard to compliance

  • Be a point of contact for managers and employees regarding compliance related queries

  • Provide regulatory assistance with projects as they arise including the implementation and monitoring of the internal systems and controls after completion of the projects to ensure controls are maintained

  • Review and assist with the sign off of financial promotions and advertising literature for both company, Appointed Representatives and agents, reinforcing core compliance values across the business

  • Provide advice and guidance on how to remain compliant within appropriate current FCA, PRA, DPA/GDPR and Financial Crime regulations including Financial Sanction requirements for the UK while ensuring that the strategic developments of the firm are met

  • Keep up to date on any changes to the regulatory General Insurance rules and regulations and assist with their implementation and provide plain English version of the regulations where appropriate

  • Conduct compliance monitoring reviews and audits  based on audit schedule and ad hoc requirements as required by the Internal Auditor or line manager

  • Review completed audits and follow up on any recommendations made

  • Assist with the production of management information for regulatory reporting and Board reporting purposes

  • Perform regular checks and work to timescales in accordance with the Compliance Processes and task system

  • Perform themed visits when required on any of the areas of concern within the firm 

  • Produce detailed reports and propose recommendations and action plans 

  • Assist with company projects as assigned and undertake reasonable duties as required  

  • Travel to other UK offices and potentially abroad as and when required

 

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant professional qualifications (ICA Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance or equivalent)

  • Experience of working in a compliance role within an insurance company in the UK 

  • Strong understanding of the insurance industry, the regulatory environment within which the business operates and the regulatory requirements it must meet

  • Considerable knowledge of PRA and FCA rules and regulatory best practice requirements and the application of same in an insurance context

  • Commercial awareness

  • An effective and confident communicator of complex messages (written and verbal) 

  • Strong attention to detail and focus on delivery

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise at all levels

  • Proven organisation and analytical skills

  • Capable of producing high-quality work in a flexible, fast-paced environment

  • Takes personal responsibility for actions and decisions and takes initiative to make things happen
