About The Role

The Compliance team in the UK encompasses approximately 30 employees who oversee all of the business activities in the UK, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Africa.

The mission of the Compliance Department is to promote and encourage adherence to the regulatory obligations and rules to which management and staff are subject.  The aim is to assist the group in developing a culture where its business is conducted within both the letter and spirit of the applicable laws and regulations in the interests of our customers and to minimise the risk of reputational damage or regulatory sanction.  In achieving these objectives we will manage relationships with our regulators, provide advice and guidance to our business partners, monitor the activities performed by the group and provide training when required.

An opportunity has arisen at HGI for an experienced Compliance professional to join the Surveillance Team to support and contribute to the development and implementation of our automated trade surveillance system primarily focused on market abuse risk. This is an opportunity for a candidate with the relevant monitoring experience to take on a challenging role within an expanding area. The surveillance process requires some quantitative skills as it includes the analysis of trade sequences for conduct inconsistent with regulatory rules, partnering with product compliance to resolve questionable trading patterns, and periodic monitoring of surveillance output to ensure optimal monitoring quality.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Extensive understanding of Market Abuse Regulations and the assessment of the varying levels of regulatory risk associated with different investment strategies

  • Perform daily post-trade surveillance activities including manual and automated monitoring.

  • Investigating daily alerts from individual surveillance tests including the reactive Monitoring of Emails, Bloomberg communications and daily calls if applicable – relating to potential market abuse and market conduct issues.

  • Escalate any issues identified when appropriate providing input on potential corrective action plans designed to address issues that are identified.

  • Assisting with trade surveillance ad-hoc reports when required. Providing support across all department areas and participate in special projects and regulatory requests.

  • Liaise with Operational Risk on breach management

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of HGI automated surveillance testing across investment strategies

  • To support the Head of Trade Surveillance with the reporting of trade surveillance matters to Head of Investment Compliance

  • Liaise with IT in respect of required development and testing of third party system solutions.

Additional Functions

  • Assumes additional duties as assigned.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Trade Surveillance /monitoring related experience within an Asset Management Firm or a similar financial institution.

  • Any previous experience with software such as SMARTS, Bloomberg TCA, NICE Actimize.

  • Experience using Thomson Reuters Eikon or Bloomberg platform.

  • Systems: previous experience with automated surveillance system.

  • Industry Experience: ideally, the candidate will have previously buy side front experience.

  • Technical Expertise: technical awareness of regulatory requirements in respect of market abuse behaviours. Knowledge of statistical analysis would be beneficial, as well as a strong understanding of financial products.

  • Good planning, organizational and prioritisation skills are essential.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

At a minimum the role requires the individual to:
