About The Company

Our client is a global multi strategy asset management firm with c. $12bn under management. They have offices in London, New York, Hong Kong, Sydney, Luxemburg and Jersey.

The firm launched its first hedge fund in March 2000 and has since expanded its offering to include additional strategies and bespoke solutions in the areas of multi-strategy, convertibles, asset backed securities, credit, loans and equities.

 

About The Role

To contribute to and maintain the strong compliance culture. To be a well-rounded compliance professional able to assist with the provision of advice to UK Staff on compliance and regulatory matters; as well as assist with specific aspects of the UK/EU Compliance Monitoring Programme. To be part of a hands on and proactive compliance team by working closely the existing Compliance team, Investment Personnel, and the Global Head of Compliance (CF10 and CF11).

 

Key Responsibilities

Advisory

  • Provide advisory assistance on compliance and regulatory queries
  • Keep abreast of regulatory issues that may affect the company or the Funds and report the implications to the Global Head of Compliance
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the UK FCA Handbook specifically the COBS, SUP, FUND and SYSC sourcebooks. To maintain appropriate understanding of the impact of domestic and international regulations on the funds including AIFMD and UCITS
  • To have knowledge of markets and different asset classes is essential, e.g. solid experience of debt, equities, hybrids and related derivatives including knowledge of how trades are structured and executed
  • To have familiarity with marketing rules (AIFMD and UCITS) across the EU
  • To carry out wall crossings including liaison with counterparties, relevant Investment Personnel and on-going monitoring of the restricted name
  • Have a working knowledge of the UK Money Laundering Regulations and JMLSG Guidance and being able to identify potential AML issues and suggest potential resolutions
  • To assist, when required, with the drafting and review of UK Compliance Policies.

Monitoring

Responsibilities under the Compliance Monitoring Programme (“CMP”) include:

  • Ensuring that the CMP accurately reflects and tests for the compliance risks to which the firm and the funds are exposed
  • Ensuring that staff (both Investment and Infrastructure personnel) comply with relevant compliance policies and procedures
  • PA Dealing approval and monitoring
  • Conducting Best Execution on a regular basis, including interaction with Investment Personnel to resolve any execution issues identified
  • Dealing Commission – assessment of COBS11 compliance and any other issues that may arise in relation to dealing commission and inducements
  • Identification and monitoring of other conflicts of interest that may affect both the Funds and the firm itself
  • Responsibility for maintaining compliance files in accordance with UK/EU regulations, maintaining all requisite registers
  • Carrying out CDD/KYC checks for new funds and counterparties, where applicable
  • Familiarity with and assistance with market conduct monitoring. Where necessary, follow up any issues identified through this monitoring and draft reports setting out an analysis of issues and any action points
  • Escalation of issues arising through implementation of the CMP to the Global Head of Compliance
  • Undertake bespoke project work to enhance the CMP

 

Candidate Specification

  • Degree educated
  • Certificate in UK Financial Regulation (Capital Markets Programme) or equivalent
  • Experience with an Alternative Asset Manager or a very similar role at a large financial institutio
  • Knowledge of UCITS would also be beneficial
  • Motivated, self-sufficient, and confident in liaising with investment professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload yet work in an organised and accurate manner
  • Methodical and analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail
  • Intermediate/Advance Microsoft Excel skills
